“Experience gained abroad promotes tolerance - the ability to accept people as they are, without prejudice.”

With Wiesbaden International the city has set itself the goal of preparing children and adolescents for life in a globalized world. The aim is to offer adolescents the opportunity to gain experience of life in other countries.

“The more normal it becomes to meet people from other countries, the less likely it is that people will regard unfamiliar cultures as posing a danger.”

Peter Bartholomäus, patron of Wiesbaden International.

CONNECTING TEENAGERS WITH THE WORLD

With Wiesbaden International the city has set itself the goal of preparing children and adolescents for life in a globalised world. The aim is to offer adolescents the opportunity to gain experience of life in other countries. Well-planned, accompanied encounters and exchange programmes between adolescents from different countries are designed to awaken their interest in making new discoveries. They alter the way participants view the world, allowing them to experience history at first hand and enabling them to develop a broader perspective. In so doing, they contribute to a more open-minded atmosphere in the young peoples’ own city.

This requires close collaboration between committed partners in education, politics, business and civil society. The older adults must actively promote a democratic, supportive community, create workable support structures and framework conditions, and act as role models.
