Chiara Hoffmann is training as an administrator at the local government offices in Wiesbaden. During her training, she took the opportunity to spend a period of time working abroad, and travelled for two weeks to Royal Tunbridge Wells in England.
The trainees were assisted in organizing the work placement by the “Bildungswerk der hessischen Wirtschaft” (BGHW), the industrial training organization of the federal state of Hessen, while funding for the trip was provided in the form of a grant from the ERASMUS+ “EuroMobility” pool project. Together with her contact partner at the BGHW, Chiara quickly found a suitable employer, as well as a host family for her stay abroad.
After a long journey by bus and train, she received a very warm welcome from her temporary family. Chiara spent a lot of time with them after the end of the working day, and after just a few days, she felt very comfortable just talking in English.
Her new work tasks were very different to the ones she was used to at home. In England, she wrote blog articles, analyzed websites of other towns and cities and even planted flowers to make the town look a bit prettier. Throughout her stay, the language was never a problem. Her colleagues were very friendly, and were very understanding whenever she had any questions.
Chiara thinks fondly of her time in England. She found out what it felt like to take responsibility for yourself, and developed new abilities thanks to her trip.
